Being a performing musician I have a lot of ties to the music world of my local area. Being a photographer, I get into a lot of places to take photos that most other people wouldn’t be allowed to. Put them together and you pretty much have an all access pass to most any place.
While walking about Lexington with Becca the other day I came across Ben playing at a local club. I knew at once it was him from his distinctive playing style of slapping, popping, and complex melodies. Becca and I crossed the street to where he was playing. He recognized me right away and nodded his head and asked (while still playing) how I was doing. We exchanged a small conversation and I explained that was I was taking photos of Becca and the storm. The rain came then and he had to move. We said a short farewell with the promise of coming back in a few after we had snapped some photos.
After the photos Becca and I made our way back to the outdoor patio where Ben was playing and another conversation ensued. Moments later I asked the lady mixing drinks on the patio if I could cross the fence and talk with him and take photos. She said “sure.”
Inside the barrier I kept talking to Ben and started snapping away. The manager came out and asked the bartender about the new visitors that hadn’t come through the front door. She said, “he’s friends with Ben and she’s with him.”
The manager said “ok.”
All Access. :o)
